The Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family will provide you with the following forms of counselling and support free of charge if you have been granted the status of temporary refuge in Slovakia.

Job counselling

The Office provides you with counselling regarding job opportunities, assistance with the preparation of documents necessary for a job search and support in communication with potential employers.

The Office only provides you with counselling, it does not actively look for a job for you.

Education courses

The Office can financially support your education if you have been granted the status of temporary refuge, you are at least 15 years old, and you fill out the Questionnaire for Citizens of Ukraine, which determines your placement on the labour market.

You can take courses only in Slovakia in the form that suits you – in person, as distance learning or as a combination of the two.

The staff at the Office will give you advice and recommend which field of education is suitable for you. Subsequently, you can find education course you are interested in. You can choose from a selection of courses at Skolenia.sk, Kurzy.sk, ISTP.sk, or on the website of a particular education provider.

It is necessary to deliver a signed “Application for a contribution for an education course for a foreigner” to the Office at least 15 days before the start of the course”.

The condition for obtaining a financial contribution is the successful completion of the course on the date agreed with the Office.

Driving courses (Category B driving licence) are not supported.

Financial contribution for commuting

If you are employed, do volunteer work or are in training at the employer, you can get a contribution for commuting.

The amount of the contribution depends on the distance, e.g. you get 1.5 euros for each day worked when commuting up to 10 km. Apply for the contribution within 1 month of starting employment. It is paid for a maximum of 6 months, for a maximum of 12 months in case of disadvantaged citizens.

You need to attach a confirmation from the employer and a declaration on oath regarding your current address to the application for the contribution.

Volunteering

In this case, volunteering means gaining practical experience for the needs of the labour market, as well as supporting the maintenance and development of work habits.

You can perform this activity for a maximum of 80 hours per month, for a maximum of 6 months. After completion, you can repeat it for a maximum of six months at another authorized entity (municipalities, schools, hospitals, legal entities, civil associations, etc.).

The Office can grant you a financial contribution of a maximum of 110.72 euros per month.

You cannot receive this contribution together with the contribution for obtaining work experience (see below).

Obtaining work experience

As part of employment support, the Office provides support for obtaining theoretical and practical experience under the guidance of an experienced advisor (mentor). It is work for 4 hours a day continuously, for a maximum of 3 months. After completion, the employer will issue a certificate of graduation for you.

The office can grant you a financial contribution of a maximum of 234.42 euros per month. Your employer gets a financial contribution for providing a job position and training.

You cannot receive this contribution together with the contribution for volunteering (see above).
